DENVER — Swallow Hill Music is auctioning a pair of front-row VIP tickets to RootsFest
with an overnight stay at the Magnolia Hotel through eBay, to benefit the Colorado Greyhound Adoption (CGA), the
local source for a cause close to Neko Case's heart. Neko Case is headlining
RootsFest with Judy Collins. The eBay auction ends on February 4, 2010 at 3:10
p.m. MST. Go to the auction.
Speaking for the cause,
Neko Case has said, "As the proud mom of three greyhounds, I can barely contain
my excitement about having a portion of the proceeds from our show benefit the
Colorado Greyhound Adoption. I can't say enough positive things about the breed
— they are gentle, funny, and loving. They're the Bob Newhart of dogs! I'm
thrilled to help the dogs, and get word out so more people can learn about the
breed and go to Colorado Greyhound Adoption for a new friend!" A portion of Neko
Case's merchandise sales during RootsFest will also be donated to CGA.
As greyhound race tracks
continue to close throughout the United States, there is growing concern over
the fate of their dogs. CGA is a local, volunteer-run organization that has been
finding homes for displaced greyhounds in Denver since Mile High Racing closed
its doors in 2008. CGA has since extended its operation to include placing dogs
from Florida, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Arizona. In 2009 alone, CGA’s
dedication to the cause helped find homes for 189 greyhounds. "In order to help
these dogs find homes," says CGA’s Executive Director Rori Mattson, "we need
resources, mostly in the form of volunteers and donations. It is also important
to keep the interest in Greyhound Adoption high. CGA is very excited and
grateful to be working with Neko Case. She has been a strong supporter and we
are delighted to have her in our corner!"
