DENVER, COLO. (3/13/08) -- Swallow Hill Music Association is delighted to announce Joanna Springer's promotion to the position of Concert Director.

Joanna is a graduate of the University of Colorado Denver, where she started out as a performance major studying flute. She obtained a Music Business degree after deciding it was a better way for her to pursue a career in the music industry. Her start at Swallow Hill came in 2003 when she became an intern for the Marketing Department. In 2004, she became an employee when she was hired on in a dual role as Café Manager and Concert Assistant. Later that same year Joanna also took on the task of being Volunteer Coordinator, and in 2005 she returned to the Marketing Department as a part-time Marketing Assistant.

Juggling all these different roles, Joanna learned much about the inner workings of the organization, particularly in regards to concert production and marketing. In 2006, she left the Café Manager, Concert Assistant and Volunteer Coordinator positions to commit to the Marketing Assistant role on a full-time basis. By the end of that year, she left Marketing and went back to the Concert Department as its Concert Production Coordinator. As the Coordinator, she honed her skills in seeking out and booking new talent, advancing and contracting shows, overseeing the production of all music concerts, and running one of the organization's largest events, the Swallow Hill Folk Festival.

Joanna's intricate knowledge of Swallow Hill will be an asset to the Concert Department as she takes its Director seat. "Folk music is the music of the people," she says, "and we want to expand what we present in all directions, with stronger diversity in the genres we host." In addition to diversifying concert programming, Joanna also has her eyes set on finding and helping develop the best new artists. More effort will be put into scouting talent and helping the most promising artists promote themselves and build careers. Since part of Swallow Hill's mission is to advance the music it presents, Joanna feels this is a great way to further that mission.
