Miriam holds a BA
in Music from Yale, and a Master of Music from the State University of
New York, Stonybrook. After graduating, she played the oboe with orchestras
and chamber music groups, including the (former) Denver Symphony. During
this time her interest in folk music blossomed, and she learned to play
the Uillean pipes (Irish bagpipes) and the tin whistle.
Currently, Miriam plays recorders, whistles, and button accordion with Los Lantzmun, a Jewish "world beat" group based in Denver. She has recorded one CD, "One World," with the group. Miriam also plays Irish music with various groups around town, and occasionally at contra dances and ceilis.
Miriam teaches Irish and folk tin whistle. She also teaches folk, classical, and medieval/baroque recorder. She is a patient teacher who enjoys working with students of all abilities. Lessons with Miriam are tailored to each individual student and may include reading music, playing by ear, or both methods. She teaches private lessons as well as group classes.
