Richard began guitar
studies at age 12 and was soon performing at age 14 with sister/vocalist
Diane Reed. The duo became so popular that they were soon opening for
such well known acts as José Feliciano, Arlo Guthrie and Hedy West and
became featured artists at many folk music clubs and hotels in New Jersey
and New York.
Richard went on to study music on scholarship at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music. He continued to perform on the concert stages of colleges, festivals and folk music clubs, as well as on his own television production of "The Richard Reed Show." He has since appeared on a multitude of radio programs, and performed at countless functions throughout the East Coast and Rocky Mountain Region.
Richard now concentrates on performing, arranging, and writing for solo acoustic guitar. He has created his own guitar method as well as a series of classes and books dealing with everything from ragtime to music theory on the guitar. He has released two albums.
Richard teaches beginning to advanced acoustic guitar in contemporary, ragtime, jazz, and blues styles.
His specialties include fingerstyle arrangements and note for note transcriptions.
